Near East Dance Ensemble

With the vision of creating beautiful music come to life through innovative, exciting and powerful choreography, Raksanna is pleased to work with a select team of dancers who share this common goal.

Fun night at dress rehearsal

Dancers in Raksanna’s Near East Dance Ensemble are students in the Advanced/Professional (Level 4) technique and choreography classes held on Sunday afternoons.

During our time together, we focus on projects such as the 15 minute production number that honors Egypt – the piece included Shamedan, Melaya Leff, Zar, Nubian, Saidi and a lively drum solo finale. A beautiful choreography to the famous Spanish / Arabic composition, Amayaguena, incorporated zills (finger cymbals), hand fans and lovely skirt work.

Raksanna’s Near East Dance Ensemble performs in select theaters in the Chicago area, in regional area haflas and at cultural festivals.  Several members of the Company are also members of Raksanna’s professional troupe, Raksanna and the Desert Flames.

Other members of the Company are pursuing soloist paths in the local Chicago area, as well as on the national landscape.
